It was really interesting to me to learn how fast food chains have such a strong effect on our country's socioeconomic, political, and corporate cultures. I grew up thinking that people who worked at fast food restraunts for a living were uneducated and lazy. My teachers had always told me, "If you don't work hard, you will end up flipping burgers at McDonalds". So I imagined that the people who worked there were the kind of people who didn't work hard. I was most definately wrong in that aspect.
In adition, this book gave me a better/different outlook on something that would have never crossed my mind: that the fast food industry plays a major role in shaping our country. Like Schlosser, for my first hypertext essay, I wanted to open people's eyes about something that needs to be changed, but that people are (for the most part) unaware of. The evidence he uses to back up his statements, really solidifies his arguments and allows his readers to believe what he is writing. He even goes so far as to tell stories in the prespective of the workers, and go into graphic (and disgusting) detail about slaughterhouses. I hope to exemplify his clarity and efficientness in my hypertext essay.
