Plans for personal site

For my web page I would like to imitate a method a lot of the sample pages used. The idea of using a bright bold picture as the first image on the page is attracting to the eye and sparks curiosity. The cross over picture is also a nice because it offers two views. I plan to use this on my opening page, because it draws people’s attention and sends a message without words. In particular I liked the pictures used for the migrant farm workers and child lab site. The child labor site had a very striking picture of two children's hands, then the cross over was an illustration, nicely complimented by the black background. The second element I plan to include in my web page is to have all my links on the top, side, or bottom of the page. A good web page example of this is living the Low-Wage Life: Vietnamese Nail Technicians. I find a site easier to navigate and more useful when the links are all together and not embedded into a paragraph on the web page. A third element that I like is when the text is spread out across the page and not in the center of the page. A good example of this is the webpage Living the Low-Wage Life: Prison Industry. The text is spread out and easier to read. The fourth element I like on the web pages is when the pages are all in uniform. For instance the migrant farm works page is nicely laid out with uniformity that attracts the reader. Lastly I like the flash button usage. On the website Disparage at SCU- there were great flash buttons that attracted the eye and made the page seem user friendly.

I agree fully that the first, main image generates a feeling for the rest of the person's time viewing the site. You could even argue that the image alone has more power than anything else you'll post on your site, because it's truly the first impression.

Uniformity is also another important part. I would agree that site does it well, but make sure your pages aren't complete copies of each other, save for the text. That's just boring.
