Hypertext design

After looking at some of the sample sites, I decided that there were a few elements from each site that I now want to put into mine. A few of the sites had a navigation bar at the top, which seemed to be the easiest way to go from page to page. It made everything feel organized, and very convenient. One of the sites, the Scavenger Children site, had some things I liked and some things I didn't. Many of the pages were basically the same, which put an emphasis on the writing because the design was no longer catching my eye. While this did make the writing more the priority, it got a little old after awhile. One of the pages also had a link to some blogs, but not much else. However, the blogs can contain a ton of info, factual and other opinions. I think the links to the blogs alone made that specific site successful. The morticians site was very simple, but that simplicity made it so easy to comprehend everything they put on their site. I think doing something simple will make things a lot easier, but I also want to have some extras on my site. These could potentially include some video clips, or some other type of multimedia. I am also going to try and have a good "facts" page such as the pedicure and manicure site. I think having these facts and using these facts correctly can really help to show people what you are trying to say.

I agree with the fact that the design never changed, it was the same basic structure. That is something i didnt think of when i was looking at sites, but you brought it to my attention as something i do not want to do either

I agree with what you are saying here. If a site has the same design over and over again it does seem repetitive and the focus does rest squarely on the text itself. But I think that the design can stay the same as long as all the pages within the site itself do not look like carbon copies of one another. If the sites change too much from page to page, then your audience may have a difficult time looking for a navigation menu/bar to get to other parts of your site. I think that if you have a basic design and then tweak little things in each page specifically for that content, then you can get the best of both worlds - a consistent design that is user-friendly and keeps the attention of your audience.
