Fast Food Nation
Although I have never read this book before, several of my teachers in my highschool have disscussed it before so I wasn't to surprised to learn about the treatment of employees by the fast food and meat industries. Schlosser's use of facts, however, are what really made the message stick. The fact that not only would be cheaper and easier for McDonald's to close one of their buisness and reopen a block down then deal with workers wanting to join the union, but that they actually did this is a scary thought. He also does a great job of showing the feelings of meat industries owners by expressing the "inconvience" of have cattle that cannot be made all the same shape and size. Of course, the worst part of this is that the pressures to continue these protocals come not only from CEO's but even members of our own government. Reading these chapter has also helped give me ideas of how I should shape my hypertext essay. The use of testamonials and straight facts are extremly effective and I will deifnitly look for a way to use them in my own essay.
